In a country where thousands of people seem to have "evaporated" from the face of the earth, the search for the disappeared had to be done by the civilians themselves. Faced with the indolence of local authorities (often involved in the disappearances), the mothers, wives, daughters or sisters of those who did not return home, had no choice but to survey the false clandestine and deal with the government, in order to find the bodies of the missing. Since 2014, it is more than 70 collectives and organizations that have emerged throughout the Mexican territory. Composed mostly of women, these civil groups have helped find more than 4,000 bodies since the beginning of their search.
